Pharmaceutical Microbiology founded as Microbiology and Food Control Department in 1962 which was carried out until 1968 by Prof.Dr.Behic Onul who gave the first microbiology lecture.
Since 3.12.1962 Associate Professor Dr. A. Cemal Omurtag gave lectures in Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department and he was head of Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department in 1968. He maintained this position until he went Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences in Academy of Pharmacy.
Between 1977-1978 Prof. Dr. Namık Aksoycan was assigned teaching optional subjects in Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department in Faculty of Pharmacy.
In 19 June 1979 Prof. Dr. Kemal Ozsan, who had been in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Microbiology, was nominated as head of Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department in Faculty of Pharmacy.
Dr. Ahmet Akın became associate professor in 1982 and he was nominated as head of Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department in Faculty of Pharmacy. Between 1982-1993 Microbiology joined as a department of Pharmaceutical Technology. In 1993 the department namely Pharmaceutical Microbiology and it has been joined as a department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akın worked as lecturer in department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology between the years 1982-1993 and since 1993 he has been worked as head of Pharmaceutical Microbiology Department.
Term 3 courses; History of microbiology, bacteria cell structure, bacterial growth, protein synthesis, structure and replication of DNA, variations, modifications and mutations, bacterial genetic material transfer, vectors, zoonoses, chemotherapeutics and mechanisms of action of chemotherapeutics, disinfectants and mechanisms of action of disinfectants, parasite host relationship, pathogenicity, virulence and immunology.Term 4 courses; virulence and viral infections, Gram (-) bacilli and cocci, Gram (+) bacilli and cocci, spirochetes, rickettsiae, chlamydiae, parasitic and fungal infections.
